…weight in faith.

I put my trust in You
I live in Your light, despite the shadows of these giants
and Your blood cleanses me of all sin.
I’ll never be disgraced for putting my trust in You.

my faith

I wait – in faith – because there’s weight in faith,
evidence of unshakeable foundations

reframe it.
reframe me!

I believe! help my unbelief!
help me to exercise what you’ve placed within
help me to overcome
break-through in me.

I can’t see how everything is going to be brought together
and I feel my sin and error distances me
from the safety and protection of the palm of Your hand.

reframe it.
reframe me!

Your blood was shed for my sin.
You understand my weakness.
I love You!
break-through in me!

Hebrews 11:1 New Living Translation (NLT)

1 John 1:7 New Living Translation (NLT)

7 But if we are living in the light, as God is in the light, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, cleanses us from all sin.

…this temporal deception.

freedom. clarity.  truth.
light shining on a pure stream,
also exposes the murky waters beside it.

I don’t belong to the night
– or the shadows of these giants –
yet this is what feels like home.
what a horrible lie,
this temporal deception.

reframe it!
reframe me!
I’m struggling to see.
my diet is mud and silted water.
my faith? deficient, it seems.
victory seems out of reach.

reframe it!
reframe me!
I’m tired of living in the shadows of these giants,
but I can’t escape by myself.
break-through in me again
and banish this temporal deception

5 For you are all children of the light and of the day; we don’t belong to darkness and night.

1 Peter 2:9 New Living Translation (NLT)

9 But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.

…this temporal reckoning.

depression and anxiety
the fear of the bad.
missing out on good things
as a consequence of my misdeeds.
living in the shadows of these giants –
this temporal reckoning.

the Word gave life
life brings light
full circle
Your Word is a lamp to my feet
and a light to my path.

something still seems missing.
the shadows of these giants
this temporal reckoning
the consequences of sin and conditioning.

break-through in me
shine light through my brokenness
the cracks and gaping holes
character flaws.

may Your blazing sun
light the way to freedom.

…this temporal perspective.

I don’t understand the ins-and-outs of Your plan
and all I have for a reference point
is my understanding and reasoning
– finite and flawed in nature –
this temporal perspective,
clouded in the shadows of these giants.

somehow, this season is moulding me,
shaping me into a form of maturity,
into something more useful.

God’s a creative type,
taking the weathering and eroding process
and applying it to my life.
a nurtured soil – with beautiful nutrients –
becoming the foundation
for a new and purposeful piece of art.
hopefully,
something that will be a blessing to others.

from this temporal perspective
– if clay could think and talk –
it’s probably wondering…

“what’s with all the prodding?
the poking?
the pushing?
the pounding?
the pressure?
why not leave me be?”

it doesn’t understand
the work of the Potter’s hand.

help me to be perfectly formed
into a vessel fit for use.

7 However, he has given each one of us a special gift through the generosity of Christ.

…this temporal timeframe.

it’s true!
I’m impatient.
I want the healing, the victory,
and the accolades, now!

I don’t wanna wait anymore,
but, I don’t think I’m ready.
I mean, I want to be.

I’m knocking on doors – trying to bash them down –
trying to speed up this temporal timeframe.

there’s - obviously - still issues
and my timeline doesn’t align
with the daylight of His!

it seems I push too far ahead
or dawdle behind
and instead of living in the warmth of the sun,
I shiver in the shadows of these giants.

I’ll get there – I really believe I will –
it’s just hard.

I take a faithful step at a time,
but inside, I either want to run or rest.

I’ll get there.
the perfect work that needs to happen will take place,
because that’s what I pray for the most often to happen
and that gives me a little bit of hope
in this temporal timeframe.

Psalm 28:7 New Living Translation (NLT)

7 The Lord is my strength and shield.
I trust him with all my heart.
He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy.
I burst out in songs of thanksgiving.

Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 New Living Translation (NLT)

1 For everything there is a season,
a time for every activity under heaven.
2 A time to be born and a time to die.
A time to plant and a time to harvest.
3 A time to kill and a time to heal.
A time to tear down and a time to build up.
4 A time to cry and a time to laugh.
A time to grieve and a time to dance.
5 A time to scatter stones and a time to gather stones.
A time to embrace and a time to turn away.
6 A time to search and a time to quit searching.
A time to keep and a time to throw away.
7 A time to tear and a time to mend.
A time to be quiet and a time to speak.
8 A time to love and a time to hate.
A time for war and a time for peace.

…this temporal temptation.

a dozen minutes
to try and convey my thoughts.
I put so much pressure on myself
to perform.

we’re asked to do nothing,
but we’re still to do something.
pray to God in our battles
with this temporal temptation.
the armour of God and all that jazz.

I get so weighed down
in the shadows of these giants.
my feet get stuck
my hands fail to lift

oh, how I need some encouragement
to overcome.

guard my life, and the life of my family.
work in us and bring us through to victory.
strengthen the weak parts of my body
so that I may truly live.

Luke 22:46 New Living Translation (NLT)

46 “Why are you sleeping?” he asked them. “Get up and pray, so that you will not give in to temptation.”

Ephesians 6:10-18 New Living Translation (NLT)

10 A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil. 12 For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.

13 Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. 14 Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. 15 For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. 16 In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. 17 Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

18 Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.

...this temporal lie.

I get it. I’m sorry.
I’ve lived in the rust
of this temporal lie
and in the negative shadows
of these giants.

I’ve not trusted in
your character
your ability
your strength
or your truth.

I’ve not trusted myself,
yet I have trusted in myself.

messes, consequences, grief.

do you know my name?
have I searched for you?
then why am I deaf to your voice?
why do I seem alone in this battle?

forgive me for speaking plainly
grace and mercy

I need this temporal lie to be broken
and I need to trust in you

forgive, heal, restore.

set me free from the now brittle chains of
this temporal lie.

...this temporal battle.

in life, we face
inconveniences, challenges and battles.
our own strength and courage
can help us get through
the minor inconveniences…
the moderate challenges…
but when the major battles hit,
that’s where we will inevitably reach our limits -
our end of the rope.

give your worries and cares to God,
for He cares about you.

I can’t beat the shadows of these giants
depression, anxiety, grief, trauma
I can aid my recovery or sabotage it,
but I alone can’t triumph over
this temporal battle.

it does help to realise
that we all face things that bring us
to the end of ourselves
– even if we are facing battles that are terminal –
yet, this battle is still temporal in nature.
whether miraculous victory happens
in this life or not,
it will happen in the next.

our hope is not in our strength
to face this temporal battle,
but in the One who has overcome it all.
One who can truly sympathize, empathize,
judge fairly, treat gently and show grace
to us in the temporal battles we face.

...this temporal fight.

The battle is wearing me out
- against my flesh, my sinful desires
- against my flesh, my infirmities
I don’t taste honey
I taste defeat.

This temporal fight caves in my mind
and has my mind hiding in caves,
searching for safe shelter
in the shadows of these giants.

reframe it

reframe my life, from the ground up
build me on a firm foundation
and, please, fight for me
always fight for me.

Psalm 19:7-10 New Living Translation (NLT)
7 The instructions of the Lord are perfect,
reviving the soul.
The decrees of the Lord are trustworthy,
making wise the simple.
8 The commandments of the Lord are right,
bringing joy to the heart.
The commands of the Lord are clear,
giving insight for living.
9 Reverence for the Lord is pure,
lasting forever.
The laws of the Lord are true;
each one is fair.
10 They are more desirable than gold,
even the finest gold.
They are sweeter than honey,
even honey dripping from the comb.

Deuteronomy 1:30; 3:22; 20:4 New Living Translation (NLT)

1:30 The Lord your God is going ahead of you. He will fight for you, just as you saw him do in Egypt.
3:22 Do not be afraid of the nations there, for the Lord your God will fight for you.’
20:4 For the Lord your God is going with you! He will fight for you against your enemies, and he will give you victory!’

2 Chronicles 20:4, 15, 17 New Living Translation (NLT)

4 So people from all the towns of Judah came to Jerusalem to seek the Lord’s help.
15 He said, “Listen, all you people of Judah and Jerusalem! Listen, King Jehoshaphat! This is what the Lord says: Do not be afraid! Don’t be discouraged by this mighty army, for the battle is not yours, but God’s.
17 But you will not even need to fight. Take your positions; then stand still and watch the Lord’s victory. He is with you, O people of Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid or discouraged. Go out against them tomorrow, for the Lord is with you!”

…this temporal fire.

Your will is more desirable than my comfort.
money and possessions can’t satisfy
the deep longing within.

what can comfort me
in the shadows of these giants?
paper money and possessions?
they just become fuel for the fire.
this temporal fire will die
and gold and possessions don’t bring lasting comfort.

I need more light
than what’s provided by
this temporal fire.
I need a lamp to my feet
and a light to my path.

I have been weighed down
by my own folly and sin.
now, please, raise me up,
so I may worship you with my life.

I’m unsure what that looks like
-and I’m a bit scared-
but I’d rather live in your light
than in the shadows of these giants,
beside this temporal fire.

36 Give me an eagerness for your laws

37 Turn my eyes from worthless things,
