After the Netflix original series “13 Reasons Why” became one of the most talked about — and the most tweeted about — show of last year, both fans and concerned parents alike were left wondering what was next. After all, the first season was based off a book, leaving the direction of the show’s second season relatively unknown.
While there’s still much we don’t know about where the show will go (although there is speculation), Netflix finally revealed Monday night that season two of “13 Reasons Why” will air on Sunday, May 18.

Many praised the show’s first season for addressing often taboo topics like suicide, rape and bullying. However, many suicide prevention advocates criticized how the show portrayed these topics. For example, protagonist Hannah Baker is able to influence and send messages to people after she dies by suicide, an unrealistic and even dangerous message to send people struggling with suicidal thoughts.
The first season also featured a graphic scene that showed Baker killing herself. Following criticism, Netflix added a content warning to the beginning of the first episode. But some saw the move as too little too late, considering previously, the show offered no resources for its viewers at all.
