Amy Adams Plays Psychologist With Agoraphobia in Upcoming Thriller 'The Woman in the Window'
The trailer for a terrifying new thriller puts Amy Adams — as a child psychologist with agoraphobia — in the center of murder mystery she needs to solve without ever leaving her house.
Titled “The Woman in the Window,” Adams plays Anna Fox, who struggles with intense agoraphobia that leads her to stay in her house. One day, she lets her neighbor, Jane Russell (Julianne Moore), into her home and the two strike up a friendship. But it’s short lived because Anna witnesses Jane’s murder, which kicks off a string of events that lead Anna to believe things aren’t as they seem. Police won’t listen to her, however, because the medication Anna takes causes hallucinations. This means Anna is left to solve what really happened to Jane on her own by spying on her neighbors from her home.
Don’t go looking into other people’s houses. You won’t like what you see. Check out the new poster for The Woman in the Window, in theaters May 15, 2020.

The film adaptation is based on the book of the same name by A.J. Finn, aka for writer Dan Mallory, which ignited a controversy. In the year after the success of his novel “The Woman in the Window,” it was discovered Mallory lied about significant portions of his past to get ahead. This included suspected lying about surviving cancer and a brain tumor and his brother’s death by suicide, according to W magazine. He also allegedly copied most of the plot for “The Woman in the Window” from the 1995 film “Copycat,” which features an agoraphobic professor. Mallory then claimed his bipolar II disorder diagnosis was behind his decision to stretch the truth.
According to IndieWire, the film version of “The Woman in the Window” was originally set to be released in October. After Disney and Fox merged, however, Disney asked the filmmakers to make changes to the film in response to negative feedback they received during the test screening phase of production. Its release was delayed until 2020. The thriller is directed by Joe Wright and also stars Wyatt Russell, Brian Tyree Henry and Gary Oldman.
“The Woman in the Window” will premiere on May 15, 2020, and you can watch the first trailer here:
