Broadway Star Laurel Griggs Dies at 13 After Asthma Attack
Broadway star Laurel Griggs died on Nov. 5 at the age of 13, according to a Facebook post from her grandfather, David Rivlin. According to Rivlin’s Facebook post, Griggs died following a “massive asthma attack.” She is best known for portraying Ivanka in the Broadway musical “Once” and also appeared on “Saturday Night Live.”
According to the American College of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology, asthma is a chronic lung condition where inflammation causes the airways in your lungs to narrow and make breathing difficult. The condition affects approximately 26 million people in the U.S. and can range from mild to severe. While preventative medications can reduce the risk of death, asthma is still a serious condition. More than 3,500 people die from asthma-related complications each year.
