7 Tips for Keeping 'Fun Outfits' in Your Life When Getting Dressed Is Hard

Let’s be honest, putting together outfits that are comfortable to wear all day is difficult. It takes even more energy to piece together Insta-worthy ones. I spend a lot of my time online, and it is extremely easy to fall into the trap that social media and fast-fashion lead.

So how do we deal with a society that puts an emphasis on cheap, trendy clothes instead of the need for comfort? For me, it’s about finding a middle ground.

Here are some of my tricks to keeping the fun outfits in your life when getting dressed it hard:

  1. One pieces. Dresses and jumpsuits are easy for low spoon mornings, you just got to grab that one piece and you are good to go!
  2. Buy matching sets. Summer is a great season to go out in a nice matching crop top and wide-leg pants set. Matching sets are also a  great alternative if you are not a huge fan of dresses or jumpsuits. Add some comfortable flats and feel stylish and confident!
  3. High-waisted bottoms. If you have a chronic illness or health problems that cause you to bloat, high-waisted bottoms are a lifesaver. A nice high-waisted skirt is a great way to hide that unwanted bloat without putting any extra pressure on your stomach. High-waisted pants not only flatter all figures, but also make wearing trendy pants easier…whether they are skinny jeggings for those who like a squeeze, or looser, boyfriend-styled jeans for those who are more skin sensitive.
  4. Layers. Wearing layers are fantastic if you can’t regulate your body temperature and the need for options is vital. Cardigans are your friend! Plus they come in all colors, styles and materials so you just need to find some that suit you. Fleece-lined tights are great for winter. Pop them on under jeans, sweats, or a skirt to keep your legs warm and your outfit cute. Scarves are the most over looked layering option. They are also the easiest option to remove should you have trouble getting dressed by yourself. And who says you can’t literally use your blanket scarf as a blanket!
  5. T-shirts. A nice printed T-shirt is an easy way to spruce up an outfit; wear with some high-waisted jeans, a cardigan and comfortable shoes and you got yourself a look. Etsy has great selections of illness awareness shirts made by, and for people who want to bring awareness to chronic illnesses.
  6. Accessories. The second easiest way to make an outfit look put together is to accessorize. A long necklace is the perfect touch for a solid color top. Statement earrings and a light lip are my favorite ways to pull together a look!
  7. Adaptive clothing. Adaptive clothing lines are steadily making an appearance in the mainstream fashion world. Target is one of the most recent retailers to introduce an adaptive line, which included sensory friendly knits and wheelchair-friendly jackets.

Formulating a style that suits personal needs for style and comfort takes time and energy, but it is becoming easier with the demand for more suitable clothing options.
