It won’t be news to you, but sometimes living with a chronic illness or disability is its own full-time job. And no matter how many times you hear you’re not alone if you had to leave your job because of your condition, it can still sting. You want to work full-time like your peers but symptom flares or accessibility issues make this impossible.

Mighty contributor Allyson Byers, who lives with the chronic skin condition hidradenitis suppurativa, knows what this is like. Like many others with a chronic condition, her illness forced her to leave her job before she realized that remote work — and the flexibility it provides — ended up being the modification needed to balance her health and work.

“Working from home has allowed me to take naps, wear comfortable clothing, and continue to focus on getting better, physically and mentally. If I’m in a lot of pain, I can take the day off,” Byers wrote, adding:

I am able to try new treatments that are more time-intensive, like infusions and surgery. There are days when I get angry at my disease and the time it’s stolen from me or the dreams I’ve had to give up on. I feel like I lost my 20s and no one understands what I’m going through.

If you also want to give remote work a try to get back in action professionally, these seven companies are currently hiring work-from-home employees:

1. LeadsBridge

Digital advertising — like running a successful advertising campaign on Facebook — is hard work. LeadsBridge aims to make things easier for companies all to benefit the bottom line. The entire company operates worldwide, so you can work from anywhere. Benefits for full-time employees include unlimited vacation time and a competitive salary.

Full-time employees can also expect a starting salary between €32,400-€48,600 along with bi-weekly coaching and lots of digital bonuses, like an unlimited budget for the Kindle store.
