Broadway Star Nick Cordero Dies From COVID-19 at 41
Broadway star and actor Nick Cordero has died from COVID-19 at the age of 41, according to an Instagram post from his wife, on Sunday. Cordero earned a Tony nomination for his role in the Broadway show “Bullets Over Broadway” and also starred in “Waitress” and “Rock of Ages.” He also appeared in the TV series “Blue Bloods.”
“God has another angel in heaven now,” Cordero’s wife Amanda Kloots wrote on Instagram. “My darling husband passed away this morning. He was surrounded in love by his family, singing and praying as he gently left this earth.”
Cordero was hospitalized in late March with pneumonia, which doctors soon learned was caused by COVID-19. Due to complications, Cordero had his leg amputated and needed a tracheostomy. During the 95 days the actor was in the hospital, he spent several weeks in a medically induced coma. Kloots kept fans up to date on Cordero’s journey through her Instagram account. Last week, she shared that Cordero would likely need a double lung transplant.
COVID-19, the disease caused by SARS-CoV-2, is primarily considered a respiratory illness. Common symptoms include shortness of breath, coughing and a fever, but patients also report digestive issues, blood clots, heart issues, strokes and more that go beyond the lungs. The wide range of symptoms led researchers to consider COVID-19 as a blood vessel disorder.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), there have been more than 2.8 million confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the U.S. and nearly 130,000 deaths. After many states reopened in the last month, cases across the country have surged. Public health officials are urging the public to wear face masks, practice physical distancing and wash your hands often.
Fans, friends and colleagues reacted to Cordero’s death on social media and shared condolences.
Nick Cordero passed at 11:40am today with his mother and wife by his side. I can honesty tell you I have never met a kinder human being. Don’t believe that Covid only claims the elderly and infirm.
I am so grateful for the time we had. “We’ll catch up some other time.” pic.twitter.com/Oq2a8QsIyH— Zach Braff (@zachbraff) July 6, 2020
I didn’t know Nick Cordero personally but I’d been following his journey since he was hospitalized with covid 95 days ago. He fought so hard and today he lost his battle. What a tragic loss for his wife and baby.

Anyone who has ever met Nick knows the genuine soul he was, and that soul lives on in our hearts. I am so privileged to have met him— to have received his advice. We were all so lucky to live on this planet with him. Until we meet again, Nick. ???? Love to Amanda and Elvis.

Incredibly sad news. Can we please do what we need to do as a country to fight this virus together? It doesn’t care how healthy you are. It doesn’t care if you want to go to Fire Island. It doesn’t care if you are tired of wearing a mask. Reign. It. In. https://t.co/sae9sLQYv1

Nick Cordero was 374 days older than me.
Stop being dismissive of the virus's risk.
Stop saying it's only a threat to the elderly and immuno-compromised.
Stop insinuating that those of us who are taking it seriously are doing so to score political points.
Just. F**king. Stop.
