How to DIY a Home Spa for Fibromyalgia Self-Care
Self-care can be a game-changer in fighting chronic illness. If you enjoy pampering yourself and want to learn how to do it at home, here are a few steps to creating a DIY at-home spa experience.
- What is Fibromyalgia?
- What Are Common Fibromyalgia Symptoms?
1. Designate a specific area of the home to be your spa.
This could be a chair, your bathroom, or a blanket in the corner. It can be as big or as small as you want and doesn’t need to take up an entire room. Your spa simply needs to be your designated relaxation zone where no negativity enters.
2. Decorate your spa.
Make up a name for your spa and create a sign for it. Hang it up somewhere in your line of sight from your relaxation zone. Include a services sheet. Be creative. Brainstorm what you will do in your spa, and after each selection for the price put “FREE!” You can also include things like “Inner peace…FREE!” or “Good vibes…FREE!” Have fun! You can put your favorite pictures and other decorations you already have around your space. Anything that makes you happy goes here.
3. Turn on your favorite music.
It doesn’t have to be any particular kind of music — just the kind that soothes and speaks to you personally. You can easily find spa music on YouTube or Spotify.
4. Have a well-stocked fridge.
You don’t need to buy anything extra for a face mask or a foot soak. Lemon juice and yogurt or mustard on your face works as a face mask. Coconut oil and Himalayan salt creates a wonderful foot soak, and if you have any Epsom salts lying around, those all make excellent choices.
5. Tupperware is your friend.
If you have large enough Tupperware or a plastic bucket, you can soak your feet in the concoction of your dreams while reading a book, all from your couch. Of course, if you DIY a face mask, you can store the face mask in a Tupperware container for more fun later.
A DIY home spa is a safe, healthy and inexpensive way to bring the luxury you deserve to you. Taking 15 to 20 minutes out of your day to care for your body will put some positivity in the bank to provide good sleep for tonight and help fight the pain for tomorrow. Not to mention it’s a great stress reliever, which can help prevent pain flares.
