independence is difficult
i lived in a group home for 8 years and while things were not perfect, my time there was the best i’ve felt about myself and my role in society. i traded my services as a peer counselor and administrator for free rent and a modest salary. i planned to live there forever. but it closed one year ago this month after the owner died and the director became disabled. i did everything i could to keepnit running alone, but failed. i’ve been entirely independent since then. i’m not very good at it. i feel like i’m right back where i left off 8 years ago. while i can mask well enough to appear “low support needs” the only way i’ve been content is with considerable support from the group home. i’m not really sure what to do now. i’m being exploited at my current job which i had to get when the home closed. i’m misclassifed as 1099 and there are frequent osha violations including no access to rest facilities of any sort for an entire shift. sometimes multiple shifts in a row. this has been especially difficult for someone with my conditions. but i can’t report them because a work stoppage or worse, being fired, would put me over the edge financially. i’m barely making it. #AutismSpectrumDisorder #AutoimmuneThyroidDisease #ThyroidDisease
