You are not broken, you are beautifully mended together at the seams of your trauma
Have you ever heard of the Japanese tradition called Kintsugi? When a piece of pottery is broken, it is repaired by sealing together the broken pieces with gold. The philosophy extending from this is that there is beauty in flaws and imperfections, that even something that has been broken can be mended and illuminated.
For me this has always been such a powerful metaphor for healing from trauma. Our trauma doesn't define us or make us broken. As we heal, our scars are integrated into who we are and become a source of light for others.
Today I want to remind you that you are all perfectly imperfect in spite of your trauma. Don't forget that.
