Today is National PTSD Awareness Day. I see each and every one of you and I believe you. Sending big virtual hugs your way.

On to our topic for today:

It may not be necessary for a parent to disclose their trauma and mental health struggles to their children. But, for many it can be helpful to explain to their children why certain behaviors may be occurring within the home. It can help alleviate fear, self blame and even stop the chain of intergenerational trauma for children to be armed with the knowledge that a parent may be experiencing their own challenges. It can also be a powerful way of eliminating the stigma associated with seeking out mental healthcare as an adult.

Lea does just this with her own daughter: Explaining My Husband's PTSD to My Daughter

Have you discussed your mental health diagnoses with your own children? If so, what was helpful in doing so and how has it impacted your relationship with your own children?
