Thought of the Day: The Paradox of Realisation #BipolarDisorder #Livingwithbipolardisorder #MentalHealth #DistractMe #MightyTogether

A person who thinks all the time has nothing to think about except thoughts, so they lose touch with reality and live in a world entirely of illusions. Waking up to who you are requires letting go of who you imagine yourself to be. Awakening is not to know what this reality is. Awakening is to know what reality is not. It is to cease identifying oneself with any object of knowledge whatsoever. By going out of your mind, you come to your senses.

How much can a psychiatrist really relate to and understand? 🤔🧠 #BipolarDisorder

I’m going to put this out there. No advancements in the care, support and possible cures in mental illnesses can be achieved by psychiatrists and doctors alone. No text book can be referred to as a guide and as such couldn’t be written concisely by someone who merely has a qualification.

The stark reality is that you don’t get it unless you’ve got it. People who are living day in, day out with a mental illness are the only experts on the subject. I’m not discrediting the doctors or psychiatrists who have worked hard to obtain their status as such, but they are simply not in a position to understand what the situation of their patient is, thusly not able to make a suitable diagnosis for them.

You see that there are monickers for the top surgeons or paediatricians in the world, but not for a psychiatrist.

Pumping lithium or sodium valproate or any of the antipsychotics or anticonvulsants isn’t a proactive approach to it. They just remedy, not cure.

Sedation of the Mind.

I’m of the persuasion that it’s a fear factor type scenario for health professionals and that they are shit scared of making mistakes or venturing into the unknown.

They basically don’t know why or what causes it, how some medication works, the long term effects and the effects overall. That’s ok. It’s perfectly natural to be honest with yourself and realise you have to start with the fundamentals and work on them to build your structure and make progress.

I’ve never been asked to relay my experiences or my thoughts about my bipolar and how my medication is and my concerns. I do though bring these points up on my own accord and pester for an answer. I’m not just going to be told that I have a severe mental illness and given meds then just sit back down. This is my life and I want some more information about my mental illness and how what I am experiencing is going to be dealt with.

I have found most of my information from speaking to people who are in the same position as me. Through forums, communities such as this, reading blogs and books and sharing experiences with each other. I try not to rely too much on the internet as anything can be found on there.

Is it a coincidence that speaking to fellow people who have a mental illness has been more beneficial than the doctor or psychiatrist? 👩‍⚕️🤔 #Livingwithbipolardisorder
