New to The Mighty!

Hi, everyone! My name is Lydia Joy and I'm new to The Mighty community! I'm thrilled to be a part of such an amazing group of warriors!

So, a bit about myself. First things first, I'm an identical twin to the greatest sister out there. She's my closest confidant, my most supportive cheer leader in this world and the strongest human being I know.

I have a few favorite interests that I find rewarding, including but not limited to, reading and writing. I'm always up for a good book and am a self proclaimed book lover (which basically means I'm working on multiple titles, from different authors, in a number of genres at once and am rarely lucky to complete all of them). As to my writing, it is something I have found incredibly helpful since I was young. I officially started to write in 2017 for a single platform on a wide variety of topics ranging from mental health, abuse, and the right for human autonomy in every aspect of a person's life, with a few opinion pieces thrown in there to keep it interesting. From there and just this year, I began blogging in my free time and share about my own life's story and things I deeply care about. I found this very liberating!

Which brings me to why I joined The Mighty... Remember the greatest sister in the world I mentioned? Well, she suggested I share here to help bring awareness for her #RareDisease . This is nothing new: her prompting ideas and subjects to tackle; I running every rough draft over her, asking for input. This just made sense and I'm excited to say we're starting this journey here, together! We're twins, identical from birth, each other's best friend, but we're different. Most notably different is that she has a rare disease that I don't have - #TrigeminalNeuralgia (TN). October 7th is International Trigeminal Neuralgia Awareness Day and our hope, like many other families who understand this unique journey of chronic pain, is that one day, and hopefully soon, they will find a cure. In the meantime, we have hope and my sister is #tntough . She's my biggest inspiration!

I can't wait to contribute to this awesome community and look forward to learning from everyone here! I've been following The Mighty for some time now and I'm so excited to be #MightyTogether ! Much love and support to all here!
