Finding the positives #beyondmydiagnosis #ChronicIllness #ChronicPain #PainManagement

Ways to stay positive 😊when pain gets you down😖

⭐️Surround yourself with supportive people.

If you are the type of person who finds comfort in being around others, seek them out. Although it may be tempting to hide yourself away from friends and family, try to resist that urge.

But make sure you are surrounding yourself with the right kind of people

⭐️Breathe.

Deep breathing may sound simplistic, but it’s an effective way to deal with intense pain. The suggestion is breathing in for a count of four, then breathing out for a count of six.

So why is this an effective coping mechanism? “Deep breathing helps the person go from a stress response to a relaxation response,” It’s also a method of distraction; if a person is entirely focused on counting and breathing, they can’t be focused on their pain.

⭐️Make a list of the good things in your life.

One of the keys to pulling yourself out of depressive moods is overcoming your negative thought patterns. When you catch yourself thinking “It hurts so much. Nothing is working. I can’t handle this anymore,” stop and take a step back.

Get a pen and piece of paper and just start writing a list of all the positive things you have in your life, whether that’s your loving family, your job, a pet or anything else. Use this to remind yourself that even though your pain may be bad right now, it won’t always be like that.

⭐️Refocus your attention.

Sometimes you just need to distract yourself from the pain. Although it might seem difficult to refocus your attention away from the pain, you should still try.

Engage in a hobby, read, stretch or just listen to music. You can try anything that helps you refocus your attention away from the pain and onto something more enjoyable.

I hope these will help you 💜

Nature is My Best Medicine

I’m a massive fan of getting out in nature when I can. It lifts my spirits tremendously and really helps me with my mental health.

But what about the days I’m in lots of pain, unable to walk well ? Many people find themselves through illness housebound and rarely able to get out. So does this mean they have to miss out on the benefits and beauty of nature? Absolutely not.

Bring the outdoors in doors. Plants 🌱 💐 🐚🌸💚

I’ve created this quick info graphic for some ideas but I’d love you to share your ideas on how to bring the outdoors inside so nature can be enjoyed by all.

Love and light 💚💜

The Hard Pill To Swallow

Do you find that actions you ‘should’ take to help you are some of the hardest things to do.

For me, it was asking for help, that was definitely the one I struggled with most and sometimes still now. It can feel like I’m admitting defeat, that’s my default thought setting.

However over time I have learnt that actually to ask for help will improve my situation quicker.

What’s your ‘Hard to swallow Pill”

I’m Fine

I Didn’t Always Talk About Pain – I would say “I’m Fine”

I think the main reason for not talking about it was that I was in denial.

I didn’t want to admit that I couldn’t do normal activities because of my pain, so I just didn’t want to mention it.

I mean, if you ignore something, it will go away. Right? Nooooo I was wrong!

I would say “I’m Fine” Because simply it was easier than explaining.

When you live with pain there is no simple answer. How long would it take to say exactly how I was instead of hitting the default answer?

I didn’t want to talk about pain. It was depressing and I wasn’t ready to accept.

The change came when I ACCEPTED that now I had a different life, I needed time to adjust, to re examine my dreams and goals and have time to grieve for the body I had pre pain.

It was after this that I was able to start talking openly about my pain, I stopped saying “I’m fine” I started speaking my truths and wow, it was liberating.

It was like therapy, everything came tumbling out. I was open and honest.

I think that talking about pain can really help people.

It can be a release for some people because it’s normally more helpful to talk than to bottle something up.

Talking about it can help other sufferers to know they are not alone.

Getting support is paramount and for many people, the best support comes from other sufferers with the same condition.

Also talking about it can also mean spreading awareness.

We have to talk about pain. Because if we don’t, who will?
