The one thing I hear the most from parents of new babies with Down syndrome is that they feel alone.
This is why one of my favorite things to do is visit families in the first few months after their precious bundle of joy is born!
I like to remind them that there’s a whole community out there rooting for them and sharing similar journeys— the ups, downs, and everything in between.
I also encourage them to get out into their community and connect with local Down syndrome organizations. My parents are still close friends with the parents they met 30 years ago at a local center after I was born.
And, of course, I encourage them to find community on here! We don’t always need to be nearby to feel close, and to find loving support!

This is Ellie. Her former owner's returned her to the breeder and needed a home. We lost our beautiful girl on the morning of my husband's birthday; 3 days before Christmas. Her liver burst. We were lost. Then we got a call from our friend that our Mia's "niece" needed a home. We brought her home yesterday. No dog could ever replace our Mia, but Ellie is helping heal our hurting hearts.
