Remote Learning Week 5 #SpecialNeedsParenting

I’m hanging on tightly to the thoughts that bring my joy this morning as we begin week 5 remote learning. It helps the sun is shining. The sun always helps. I keep reminding myself I can do hard things. So here we go...#Anxiety #Depression #ADHD #Tourettes #OCD #ParentingSpecialNeeds #distancelearning #remotelearning #COVID19 #SensoryProcessingDisorder

How is remote learning going? #ParentingSpecialNeeds

My name is Carissa, and I have four kiddos (3 on IEPs). We are currently going to begin week 5 of remote learning. Truth...it is the hardest thing I've ever done. I just wrote an article for the Mighty that will be published on this topic. If you are struggling like me...remember to give yourself grace and you are not alone in your struggle! #remotelearning #distancelearning #SpecialNeedsParenting #Mentalhealthselfcare

would be remiss to not use this platform I have worked so hard building to not say this, on WORLD AUTISM AWARENESS DAY.
My son has not been mainstreamed in almost 3 years. When this all started, my son was given a list of about 30 apps (for an ipad that he will most likely break out of frustration during this) and we were told he is going to be following the schedule of the mainstream 4th grade students at the elementary school. 🤔 No video one on ones, no services. I spoke out, you all know me, when I advocate, I advocate HARD. This has gotten my son a list of social/emotional writing prompts and 2 hangout check-ins a week. I sat. I cried. If you knew how many people have given up on him in his life, it's not okay. I have made up social/emotional lessons for my son, I had a friend reach out to me, she shared how she is going above and beyond for her students and offered her help, which I greatly appreciate!! We will make it. We will get through this like we always do, I refuse to ever give up on my child. So on this day of perseverance, I wanted to share this, in hopes of giving other parents the courage to speak up, in hopes of educators possibly seeing this and taking a step back to think about it, in hopes of giving strength to those that need a boost.
