The BIRTHDAY Boy

Today my boy, Serico turned 2yrs. old! As you can see he opened his gifts and is enjoying the boxes and paper. I look at him and just can't believe it's been 2 years already. Serico brings so much to my life, he's the reason I wake up every day and stick around for tomorrow..

What are emotional flashbacks?

Did you know that there are different kinds of flashbacks?

Emotional flashbacks are often experienced by those who have experienced prolonged trauma or developmental trauma rather than a single incident trauma. Instead of having a visual accompanied with the flashback that occurs in a narrative form, emotional flashbacks (sometimes called “amygdala hijackings”) involve intense re-experiencing of feelings that occurred during a traumatic experience like helplessness, fear, confusion or abandonment.

When I get emotional flashbacks they often feel like I am over responding to a current situation. I get somewhat paranoid and begin catastrophizing. That’s a clue that something has made me feel dysregulated and catapulted me into emotions from a past trauma.

If you experience emotional flashbacks, what do they feel like for you?
