Lithium and extreme exercise

After taking lithium for 6 years I finally worked it out on my own. Every year a do a challenge; hiking up 3 mountains in 3 states over 33 years to raise money for my favourite charity. At the end of the first day I am slurring my speech, stumbling, nauseous and have a headache from hell.

It finally dawns in me; my fifth challenge; I should have been taking in electrolytes instead of just water from the beginning. The salt loss makes the lithium concentrated and become toxic. Not very nice stuff in the first place.

Why has no Psychatrist told me this? Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Lithium and living at higher altitude

Hi everyone!

I’m considering a move to Denver in the summer for a new FT job and am curious about how living at higher altitude might effect the lithium I take. Does anyone have experience with this?

I’ve heard that higher altitude makes things very dry and that you’re supposed to drink much more water when you live in Denver. I do that anyway to counteract the lithium...will I be okay living there?

Still unmedicated and waiting

I had labs drawn Thursday to get the baseline numbers to start Lithium. I had already stopped my previous medication due to its side effects. My doctor still hasn't received my lab results to call in my Lithium. It's been almost 2 weeks since I have had medication and I am feeling very frustrated about this wait.

Just starting low dose Lithium. Advice, thoughts, experiences?

Starting @ 150Mlg tonight. The doc said it helps alleviate suicidal and negative thoughts. She said she has seen the low dose be very successful and beneficial for most. I am also on Seroquil .25 mlg and Buspirone 15 mlg. Hoping to see some light soon. Would love to know if you have went this route and if it was successful for you? Did the thoughts get better?
