How many of you turn to books and movies for wonderful escapes in your moments of extreme pain? Do you have favorites that help you more than others?

My favorites are fantasy books and crime / cooking shows! Nothing like catching a killer, baking a cake, and daydreaming of fairies and dragons to keep myself distracted from the pain! <3
Not gonna lie, I also have been known to turn to the occasional "Yes To The Dress" episode because of the total mindlessness of it all!

What gift/trait would you say you got from pain that makes you a better person?

I would definitely say that mine would be empathy. Being able to empathize with so many different pains and have advice for people on how to deal with it is one of the best things that have come from my pain and sufferings. It has made me into not only a stronger person, but a much better person than I would have been otherwise.

Is there anything I can do?

I can slowly see my mother talking my brother into thinking that he has all these aches and pains like me when he has previously faked them to get her attention. He seems to enjoy doctors appointments and being taken around, treated as being fragile. I am so worried that he will let my moms worries define him. I know she worries that he will have the same extreme health problems as me but she refuses to think that his are minimal and don't effect him day by day. She doesn't see how he runs and plays but fakes pain when she steps in the room.
He hasn't been officially diagnosed with anything but still she tells him he has what I have. Not only does it hurt me and make me feel like my pain is being belittled, but I am also extremely concerned that there will be no going back. He has a tendency to let things he things take over and become real.
Is there anything I can do? Or will I just have to watch this play out?

Can't remember a time I wasn't in pain.

I had a doctor ask me if I could ever remember not being in pain. Even just for a moment. And I couldn't. Even at 17 I couldn't remember not being in pain because it was so bad even 4 years in. Going on 11 years now of being in constant pain and it breaks my heart.
So many comments of "You are 23? You are Way too young to have so much pain and knowledge of it!"
Don't I know it! Too many nights crying silently into my pillow and no doubt more nights to come.
