Mindful Moment

If you'd like to take a calming mindful moment, please join me!

Stop what you're doing for just a moment and notice your breath.

After you've noticed your breath, go ahead and deepen it. In through the nose, out through the nose, nice and slow.

Notice any sensations in your body.

Observe any emotions that are present for you.

If you could sum up how you are feeling overall in just one word, what would that one word be?

Mine, in this moment, is "uncomfortable". Feel free to share your word!

Monday Reflection

I was leading a chair yoga practice at the hospital today and we started off with our regular mindfulness check in. I encouraged the patients to think of a goal or intention they hoped to see manifest in their life, whether in the short or long term. I thought about this question for myself and the answer was obvious: for my partner to find a job. (He is newly unemployed and suffering greatly about it). I was thinking about all that I wanted to have happen for us in the near and far future (settling down, buying a house, raising a family) and realized that I wasn't being fully present in my practice. My mind was on the future. I came back to the present moment and reflected on how I could continue to be present in this moment, as opposed to daydreaming about the future. I realized that this period of uncertainty and waiting is a time where I can truly cultivate and nourish the seeds that I will someday (soon, hopefully) be able to plant and watch grow. For now, I must be present in what I am cultivating and nourishing (thoughts, words, habits, etc.) so that when it is time to plant my seeds, they are truly positive and able to grow with love and passion and strength. When my mind becomes distracted and wanders away to a daydream, I will continue to come back to the present moment and focus my attention on what I have control over now in this moment.

Yoga Therapy for Mental Health

Hello! It doesn't look like this group is very active but maybe we can change that!

I am a yoga teacher and a practitioner of yoga therapy (I am currently in school to becoming a certified yoga therapist!). I work at an inpatient psychiatric hospital, facilitating yoga therapy groups to children, adolescents, and adults. I have witnessed the incredible and life changing benefits of yoga in both my patients and myself. It has been integral to my healing journey.

I am blessed to be in this community with you!

Chronic Pain Virtual Series #yogatherapy #Yoga #eft

My colleague and I are planning a virtual series to help manage chronic pain.
The series will focus on EFT/Tapping, Yoga, Mindfulness, and Nervous System Regulation as ways to manage pain and is facilitated by Maria DePasquale, a registered nurse and Certified Energy Health Practitioner with over 40 years experience in palliative care and pain management and myself, Jessica Beu, a clinical social worker and yoga therapist with over 15 years experience working with individuals with chronic illness.
