When I was 27 years old, I sat in my doctor’s office and he asked me some questions. If I had trouble focusing, especially if it was something that required a lot of thought. If I fidgeted a lot and felt restless often. If I get distracted easily. How often I struggle to follow along with conversations. Things like that.

After I answered those questions, and we talked a bit more, he told me that I had ADHD inattentive type. At first I was surprised, but at the same time it made sense. Although I was relieved to have a diagnosis and to be treating inattentiveness, I felt sad. I felt sad that it took so long to get to this point. I know for femme-presenting people it is often overlooked, but my hope is that will change sooner rather than later.

I’m curious: if you live with ADHD, how long did it take for you to get a diagnosis? What was your journey like in getting a diagnosis? #CheckInWithMe below.
