Hi Mighty friends, I made something for us and this day of awareness to remind us every other day of the year that we’re not alone and that the battle(s) we’re fighting is valid, even if it’s not often seen and acknowledged by the world around us.

(I did the editing, but the photo itself is not mine —unfortunately I could not find the photographer’s name in order to credit them.)

Truth is, I’m not really certain what battles I should share today... the battles in my body? With chronic ocular and generalized migraines, and my GI complications like SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth.) Or the undiagnosed, miserable aches that I’ve had for 2+ years..

The battles in my mind? With CPTSD, OCD, anxiety, and depression. If this is a day about fighting invisible battles, then I hope you don’t mind that I share some of the battles that my family members face. My two sisters fight an invisible battle with autism —and one with a mood disorder— and while their behaviors might give them away, much of that fight is still invisible to us. My mom fights an invisible battle with a TBI, PTSD, Anxiety and Depression. She might have physically walked away from a major car accident, but she cries because she cannot find words, and her memory isn’t the same.

If you look at my face — my seventeen year old face — I bet you wouldn’t see that I’m a girl struggling to help raise her younger sisters with autism — one of which is prone to explosive behaviors — alongside her mom who has a traumatic brain injury, and mental health issues of her own.

So to my fellow 7 out of 10, this day is for you — feel free to share your battles in the comments, or simply say “I am 7 out of 10/I stand by 7 out of 10.”

Did you know that 7 out of 10 Americans will succumb to chronic illness in their lifetime?

We recognize Chronic Disease Day on July 10 to spread awareness and provide resources to prevent chronic illness and support those with unpreventable chronic conditions. Let’s work together to lower the number.
