Packing a Hospital Bag

I’ve recently started working again, making me weary of COVID and any of my health issues. So I decided I needed to make sure my hospital bag is stocked up still, both for more regular hospital visits, as well as for COVID. My cat decided to help me.

My Bag:
I would definitely suggest something easy to describe, easy to carry, and something that can hold up well.

Clothes:
- I pack a few different things. But first and for most, SOCKS!!! I always have both fuzzy and normal socks, my feet tend to get really cold and fuzzy socks can help brighten any hospital visit.
- I have a specific jacket I always bring with me, it’s a purple fuzzy thing. It slides on over my shoulders and doesn’t have any zips or Velcro or buttons or anything. It’s just a purple fuzzy fabric. It’s perfect because I can normally slide it on over a gown, it’s big enough to not tangle with wires and it’s super warm! I would suggest packing some form of jacket or robe, especially because a lot of hospital gowns are open in the back.
- I also pack a hoodie but normally I never need it, it just makes me happy to have.
- Tshirt and leggings, normally for the ride home when leaving the hospital. Something cozy and easy to wear to leave the hospital in.
- I always pack shorts, I don’t like sitting in just my underwear and a gown. I always have a pair of underarmour shorts with me, small and light, but still covering.
- PJ pants are great
- Pack extra underwear!!!

Toiletries:
- Toothbrush and tooth paste.
- Deodarant, no one wants to stink
- Spray Shampoo, greasey hair is the worst
- Some sort of face cleaner. I bring witch hazel, gentle and soothing but it cleans well
- Lotion!
- Hair ties for long hair
- A brush or comb. I have curly hair, but after so long without showering, it needs to be brushed no matter what.
- Pads/Tampons/liners/cups/whatever other period products you need (just in case) (hospital tampons are the worst) (I say this from experience) (and bleeding onto a hospital bed from a period is rather embarrassing) (at least to my middle school self it was) (no I don’t still think about that way too much what are you talking about)
- Try not to pack too much more than the necessities, you probably won’t get much of chance to use them and so they mostly just take up space.

Extras:
- Money. I tend to bring about 15 bucks of cash, just in case I need to get food or something like that.
- Headphones!!!! I cannot stress this one enough. They are a life saver, especially if I’m trying to sleep.
- On the note of sleep, eye mask is super helpful. Especially if lights are on and people come and go. Good for day time naps too
- Pens! Good for doodles
- Gum!! It just makes me feel better
- Some books on my to read list (my fav hospital past time)

I think that’s about it for me! Do you guys have hospital bags? What else do you guys pack? Any funny stories with hospital bags?

Procedure during COVID

Today is the day I’ve been waiting for since February. I go into the hospital every 3 months for a scope and tests to see how close I am to internally bleeding. After a previous procedure was successful the doctor said they’d see me in April. Then COVID hit and cancelled everything. Today I go in to see if my life is flipped upside down again. If the things that bleed have grown back then I’ll be back to hospitalizations and explorative procedures where they enter my body while I’m wide awake. My family lives 16 hours out of province, normally they’d be here for stuff like this. So today I go alone... #GastrointestinalDiscomfort #HospitalBag #Covidsucks #PTSD #Anxiety #living without a spleen

What should I bring for my hospital stay after my hip surgery?

I will be staying there for at least 3 days and I will be a couple hours away from home. I’m just not sure what I should bring. Or what to expect #ronicPain # #rgery # #HospitalBag

I’m going to the hospital tomorrow. I have trauma there so I am overanalyzing what to bring to distract myself. What should I pack for it? #Hospitals #MultipleSclerosis #HospitalBag #help
