Over my three years at university studying a degree in backstage theatre I have been told we should not show our emotions. “We should hold it in, wait for a break, run to the toilet and then cry”. And yet anybody else is able to show their emotion let you know they are having a bad day. Why can’t I? Why can’t I approach someone confidently and say “my mental health is really bad today”? Without the threat of feeling “she can’t do the job”, “she’s just tired and stressed out”.

This is serious I considered dropping out of my degree due to my lecturer not understand that when I say I’m worried or I’m struggling it’s not the work ..... it’s my mental health!

I would like to say this is my dream job but over the last few months I have taken my mental health first and anything else second. I’m worried that if the industry doesn’t change I cannot continue on
