If you’re a leader or member of a public group, using hashtags in your posts is a great way to increase visibility of the group! Posts with hashtags are seen by anyone who follows that hashtag/topic, even if they are not yet a member of the group.
Especially when a group is just getting started, posts should include the “core” hashtags for the group’s area of focus. For example, a group about caregiving for cancer patients should include #Cancer and #Caregiving . Widely used hashtags have lots of followers, and many of them may have interest in joining the group. You just have to let them know it’s there!
Even if your post is light-hearted or a little off-topic — there’s likely a hashtag for that! If you are celebrating a win in the group, use #MightyTogether . Recommending a book, TV series or hobby? Add #DistractMe to your post.
Hashtags are tools that help members focus and explore. Get the word out about your favorite group by tagging posts with relevant words and phrases.
