We don’t go away with the month of April #Autism #ASD #Autistic #AutismAcceptanceMonth

Sorry we do not go away with the month our struggles do not go away when April leaves
Our challenges do not go away when April leaves
The stigmas placed up autism do not go away when April leaves
The world is still overwhelming when April leaves
Tags in clothes still feel like a sledgehammer 😂😭 when April leaves
Eye contact can still cause us to faint when April leaves 🥴 I’m sure you get my point by now 😆
But know what stays year round? Our open mindedness, the unique way we see the world , our HUGE hearts & traits only neurodivergent minds posses 🥰🫶🏽 so while the world may put all their ‘we support autism signage’ back in the closet until next year, you can’t pack up the amazingness we posses YEAR ROUND 😆💜🫶🏽

Speaking with Canvas Rebel Magazine #Autism #Autistic #AutismAcceptanceMonth #actuallyautistic

CRM? We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
Ayanna- A lesson I had to unlearn was that I was unworthy and that my voice did not matter the backstory is really simple is very common for disabled people feel unseen and unheard and I was told by a professional authority figure when I was a teenager that I wouldn’t get very far or be much in life and I believed her and that stuck with me for a very long time it start to change until I received my autism diagnosis and my self love and worth journey began and I realized not only am I worthy I’m more than worthy

What does autism acceptance mean to you?

April is Autism Acceptance Month and today (April 2) is World Autism Awareness Day!

We asked some of the autistic folks in our community to share what autism acceptance means to them. Here are a few of my favorite quotes:

"The thing I want people to know is that we aren't broken. There is absolutely nothing wrong with us. Our brains are wired slightly differently from the neurotypical population, but that doesn't make us any less. We are not failed neurotypicals." — J.R. Reed

"I want people to know that Autism Acceptance Month is a staging point for the rest of the year, we don't just exist for a day or a month. We are here all the time! Acceptance includes accommodations and patience in the workplace and once we have the proper accommodation many of us are able to thrive and achieve so much more than we are given credit for." — B Butcher

"I want people to know that being autistic doesn’t make me any less of a student, employee, spouse, friend, community member, family member, or parent. Being autistic helps me shine in all that I am and do in life. Autism acceptance means I’m able to be authentically myself and the focus is on getting to know me as a whole person rather than trying to cure, fix, change, or hide my autism or any other parts of who I am." — Kris McElroy
