Self help reads

Whenever I feel down in the dumps I like to read or write. After an extremely traumatic year last year I took to writing blogs, journals and stories to keep myself sane. Lately I’ve found some amazing self help books.. by Robert Duff, there’s hardcore self help - fuck depression and then there’s one called fuck anxiety! The other ones I can recommend are by Danny Baker the first one is called “I will not kill myself Olivia” and the second one is “I just want to be happy Olivia” I read both of those books within a few days. They’re amazing for anyone suffering but also great for those who know someone who’s suffering. #selfhelp #readingisfundamental #Depressionbooks

My Room

This is so appropriate for us all...we forget when we are having a bad day that we can’t give up no matter how much we would like..

My room today has this in it, because after a night of no sleep I am muddled, in pain and ready to run! The walls are like one of those fairground mirrors that deceive you - right now the walls are closing in with their gloomy colours BUT...I am hoping that with my music and my kindle the room will get lighter and brighter as the day progresses.

Tomorrow I have to be up, washed, dressed and out the door early as I have a pain management course and we will be doing some Thai Chi - I am hoping this will help mind and body!

My mood hasn’t been helped by an inconsiderate eating disorder psychiatrist last week who told me I knew the answer to my fractured bone and teeth falling apart - Just Eat!

Heroes I have known.

As a youth, Edison, Bell, Houdini and Schultz. Then a little John Lennon, a bunch of punk nobodies, Kafka, Robert Heinlein, Charles DeLint. In adulthood, Tolstoy, Dostoevski, Gary Snyder, Al Purdy, Jack Kerouac, Andre Gide, Knut Hamsun, Hemingway, Fitzgerald, Starhawk, Bill McKibben, AO Scott, Alice Munroe, Margaret Laurence, James Watson, Rachel Carson, Elizabeth Kolbert, Naomi Klein, Jack Layton, Jack London, senior Trudeau, Ghandi, Rumi, Whitman, Mary Shelley. I could list more all night.

I am a lonely man, and the voices of authors, like guiding friends have been crucial to me. Most recently I have been reading Brene Brown and Terry Prachett.

I could use suggestions, me and my books are out of gas.
