The Wisdom to Know the Difference

"God, grant me the Serenity

To accept the things I cannot change...

Courage to change the things I can,

And Wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time,

Enjoying one moment at a time,

Accepting hardship as the pathway to peace.

Taking, as He did, this sinful world as it is,

Not as I would have it.

Trusting that He will make all things right

if I surrender to His will.

That I may be reasonably happy in this life,

And supremely happy with Him forever in the next.

Amen." - The Serenity Prayer

Lately I've fallen into the hole of fixating on the things I cannot change. There is more pain in that hole than I know how to feel at once.

To climb out of the hole, I've begun identifying and giving names to the things I can change. One of which is my choice of words. My words impact every area of my brain and life AND health. Putting in the effort to shape and select my words carefully has helped return some peace and personal power to my journey. As well as move through the next steps I have to take on behalf of my body's wellbeing.

✅ One way I cultivate this area of my life is the free Mind Model coaching class I attend via Zoom. Every Tuesday at 9pm EST. DM me for details if you wish to listen in.

Your real health navigator,

💙

Shannon

Poetry

Does anyone have tips on where I can get exposure for my poetry? And is anyone interested in reading it on here?

Approval Rating 0

Why is it that we seek #Approval ? OMG, I know in my right mind that it doesn't matter, but WTF, why does my unhealthy mind want it so badly? #Judgdment and unsolicited #Advice have really dragged me down today. On a good day, it would #validate that they really don't know me at all, but right now, all it is doing is validating what my mental illness wants it to. #wordsmatter

Feeling Guilty Over This Decision But #ToxicRelationships

I've made the decision to go no contact with my parents, for at least a while. My mom can't say anything nice or without a nasty, sarcastic slide to it.  I've always been supportive of her and she snaps back at me, not once but twice in one week about issues of self-harm and family.
Dad has suggested some time of no contact.  Despite her being hurtful, going no contact can be difficult, so I have it set up with my local crisis line that when I want to call my parents I will actually call the crisis line.
The other thing I can do is come on here and ask for support, like now.  I don't want to get hurt again, so here I am.

Once again... #Selfesteem #Selfworth #wordsmatter

Once again I am reminded why I don't open up, why I don't share. Invalidation of what I am feeling and experiencing. People need to learn how to use words correctly. #Selfesteem #Selfworth #wordsmatter

#wordsmatter Autism Terminology in Today's World

I asked my autistic advisors and have been watching #actuallyautistic Twitter chat about the words we use when talking about autism. Here's what I've collected so far...Do you agree? What others would you add?

NEVER USE AGAIN:
"autism cure"
"symptoms of autism"
"suffering with autism"
"high functioning"
"low functioning"

TERMS ALREADY IN TRANSITION:
Instead of "person with autism" and use "autistic" (identity-first language preferred)
"autism awareness" changing to "autism acceptance"

TERMINOLOGY NOW:
"Autism traits or autistic traits"
"low support needs"
"high support needs"
