About a week ago, I posted about how nervous I was to go see this new doctor. I was afraid it was going to be another dead-end. Turns out, she is a wonderful person with a lot of great ideas! The first thing I learned was that even though she is certified in Naturopathy, she also has an MD so she is a “Naturopathic Doctor”, which is different than just a “Naturopath”. So I get all the benefits of a general practician, plus the natural side! So far, we are doing pressure point therapy, ozone therapy, and rebuilding my gut health through a temporary elimination diet while taking collagen. I also learned that she is good friends with my primary care doctor AND the pharmacist who created a compounded rinse that has been helping my sinuses, and she’s going to talk to him and see if he has any more ideas for me. Best of all, I get to see her twice a week—which, when you’re used to waiting weeks or months to see a doctor—is amazing!! Today I had to miss school for a migraine and she was able to see me the same day for treatment. What an incredible resource. I only met her a week ago and we’ve already had 4 productive appointments. Of course, every doctor is different, so if you consider seein a ND make sure to do your research, ask around, or ask for a referral. My GP is all about wholistic care, but she just doesn’t have the time to devote to my health problems the way my ND does. That said, I highly, highly reccomend it if the standard medical model is just not working and you need someone to see you regularly! I hope this can encourage even just one person to take the next step, however scary it might seem. Us spoonies get used to living without answers, but you never know when you might be surprised when you keep an open mind. PS sorrry for the long post!
