Comfort. #SuicidePreventionMonth

When I’m in a dorsal state, depressed, experiencing suicidal ideation, shut down, feel numb, or just need a hug I tend to turn to one (or all) of my comforts which stem from my childhood wounds.

Some nights you can find me:
•Curled up with one of my many squish-mallows and baby blanket (yes, it still exists)
•Drinking “hot chocky” (hot chocolate)
•Cozying up under fluffy, soft blankets
•Rewatching Frozen II on repeat

Yes, some of these may seem childish, but but the goal isn’t to appear a certain way. The goal is to stay safe, regular my emotions, and come back to a state of equilibrium in my body.

What comforts you when your down? Is it journaling? Watching a comedy?

Let’s start a conversation.
I love you, I’ll see you soon 🧡 #nationalsuicidepreventionmonth #988 #twloha

One Step Forward

#Depression

If you didn’t know, September is #SuicidePreventionMonth

This post has been the hardest thing I’ve ever had to put to words. It’s a topic that comes with so many thoughts, feelings, and opinions that I’ve been scared to even broach the topic.

But my therapist and I spent a lot of time discussing the need for people to understand just how many people have had the thought crossed their mind that the world would be better with them not in it.

This is the truest spirit of why I started The Battle You Know Not, to give voice to those who are fighting a battle the world knows nothing about. The first step to fixing any problem is admitting that there is one.

So I’m here to say it to anyone who has pondered or attempted to leave this world, you are not alone.

If it wasn’t for my family and friends, I’m not sure I’d be here to share my story. If I can be that for anyone else, I would happily love to return the favor.

We can no longer afford to put this topic in a box and leave it be.

We can no longer pretend this is going away over time.

Feel free to share this in your circles, friends, various media platforms to help stir up conversation. If you just want to talk, I’m here. If you need to know the available resources, I’m happy to provide those.

Because I promise you, the world is better with you in it.

Much love to you all, and thank you for reading ❤️

One Step Forward

One Step Forward

For a period of time in my life, it felt like my entire world was collapsing on me. I was broken. My job made me miserable. My relationship had ended. I had this entire plan laid out for what I was…

Suicide Prevention Week #SuicidePrevention #MentalHealthAwareness #Suicide

It's Suicide Prevention Week.

As a mental health writer and advocate I pledged to be the voice to those who are afraid to seek help. Did you know there are millions of people around the world who are suffering from mental health issues and are debating suicide? The majority of those people don’t have access to receive mental health needs. This NEEDS to change!

Know the warning signs and be the change to help prevent it. It takes one voice and one conversation to just change ONE life. A person can seem fine in their day to day life, but behind closed doors tells a different story.

Remember!
• to be patient with yourself and others.
•be kind to your mind🧠
•your life matters
•the world is better with you in it
• you are never alone.

I see you, and I hear you. My inbox is always open to anyone who feels like they just can’t go on anymore. Give yourself credit for how far you’ve come. One day at a time.

If you're in crisis, call or text the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 988. #SuicidePreventionMonth #mentalhealthmatters

Suicide Prevention Awareness Month #SuicideSurvivor #CheckInWithMe

September is #suicidepreventionawareness month and to kick it off I’m sharing this from my article here called “When I Took Suicide Off the Table as a Potential 'Solution'” (link: themighty.com/2016/09/suicidal-ideation-when-suicide-is-no-l... I choose #hope I choose #life ❤️ and while those are choices I have to constantly make every day, they are far from easy. Please remember that even in the darkest moments there is a way to find the light, sometimes that means taking a hammer to it and other times it’s a friend whispering they’re there and will see you through it. ❤️❤️❤️ #SuicidePreventionMonth #mentalhealth #reasonsispeak #nami #themighty #twloha

To the One Who Deserves to Stay,

I hope you stay. I hope you stay to make a difference in this world that is longing for hope. Yes, you will make a difference. This world would not be the same without your smile or your serving heart. I hope you stay to prove the voices in your head that you should stay here on this earth. I hope you stay for your family and friends. I hope you stay to conquer your current fears. I hope you stay to share your story if you are comfortable in hopes that you can see that your story will impact someone else who is going through a similar challenging time. I hope you stay to realize that you deserve to get help in whatever way that may look like in your life. I hope you stay to wait for the day when you truly believe in your heart that “You are fearfully and wonderfully made.” -Psalm 139:14 and that you are made in our Heavenly Father’s image and likeness. I hope you stay for the day that you realize that you are worthy of better days. I hope you stay to see more sunrises and sunsets. I hope you stay so you can share your gifts and talents that God gave you to others. I hope you stay to fight to get that diploma, to find that dream job, or to change your current job if you are ready to make a career change. I hope you stay to figure out what God has planned for you. Most importantly, I hope you stay here to prove the lies and hurtful comments that you have heard whether that be from people who have hurt you or the voices in your head that you are an overcomer and deserve to be here.

It can be hard to keep going when the voices are telling you not to keep going but I promise it is worth it to keep fighting the depression and to keep moving forward. Know that you are not alone and this too shall pass

We are still loved...and we can love.

I’ll be transparent...because what ruins our truth the most, are the lies that we keep hidden.

1. I haven’t been able to commit to intimate relationships because of undealt childhood traumas. It took me almost two decades until I finally understood what happened to me as a child wasn’t right. When what I internalized for so long had resurfaced. It floored me.

2. I can’t commit because my innocence and trust to love was stripped away as a child. Certain points of that child that was begging to be saved was still hoping that someone would save them. But no one did.

3. It’s hard to believe in God or in love when what had happened to me has no explanation or purpose. But I realized that what was taken from me as a child, never stopped me from living & overcoming everything & everyone that has come & gone out of my life.

4. The darkest days, loneliest days, most suicidal days. I still found some way to find love...love was to love myself strong enough to know that, what & who didn’t love me, can’t ever hurt me, ever again. And I can still love. I decide that for me.
