What's New in Time to Talk

Today is TimeToTalk day. It is a mental health awareness day. With all of the police shootings lately, I’m grateful for the Alachua County coresponders. I have schizoaffective and PTSD. I have been in many police encounters, that could’ve turned badly. I was introduced to the Coresponder’s when I moved up here two years ago. The Coresponder’s are a police team of a police officer, and a social worker. They’re teamed up and drive together on high risk emergency calls of clients who have had frequent Baker Acts. This police team not only handles emergency calls, but also builds a rapport with the client in need to create a trust that enables safer and fewer future interactions. The co-responders also try to help the client get the services that they need. For example, my team of Co-Responders, Deputy Dan and Nicole, introduced me to the Gainesville Opportunity Center (GOC) where I have become an active member. The GOC is s mental health clubhouse where the members and staff work together to do the jobs necessary to run the clubhouse. I have found meaning and belonging as a clubhouse member, which has resulted in me not having returned to inpatient hospitalization since joining the GOC. New opportunities have been presenting themselves in my life since moving to Alachua county and being afforded services I didn’t have before, thanks to the advanced system this county has to help people. I am in the process of training a service dog as well. My life has improved tremendously and I am very grateful to live in this progressive county. #TimeToTalk #mentallyillandpolice #Safety #resources #gratituide

Today is Time To Talk Day here in the U.K.

So let’s talk. Ok, it’s me blabbering for now. Blabbering about that thing we all have, mental health, and what some may have, mental illness.

Now when it comes to these things, it’s good to see attitudes are changing for the better. Well, with some people anyway. Because the pain of prejudice and the sting of stigma are still very much present. When I think just of myself I know most people will hold certain misconceptions in regards to my illness, even if they have an open caring mind. Progress comes, but invariably progress is slow; in comparison, were I to detail my symptoms the progress of many would be fast out of the door!

However, for once I’m not not really talking about me today (“Thank Goodness!” I hear you cry), other than to say on Time To Talk Day I know very well indeed just how helpful talking can be.

So if you’re feeling a wish or a need to talk, you can. I’m here like to think I’ve got a good ear and a good shoulder. As much as I can babble, I can listen.

Things can seem so insurmountable at times, overwhelming. Crippling anxiety, the darkest depression. We can feel so terribly lost. If this is where you’re at, I’m so sorry for that. I know how difficult it can all be.

There are certain irrefutable facts in this world. Day will follow night. Big waves will crash on gentle shores. After Winter comes Spring. Please know, we’ll get through all of this. You are not walking alone.

So let’s sit together. Have a chat, in Messenger, over the phone, here at The Mighty, perhaps even in person. Because it’s Time To Talk Day, and maybe that’s just what you want/need to do right now.

I was the only colleague who spoke about timetotalk mental health day today. I was shocked particularly because the company as a whole, are extremely supportive of each other. #MentalHealth

How do you start the conversation?

I’m sooo scared but I need to start a conversation with my cousin about my mental health. She knows I struggle but doesn’t know how hard it is.... and also what I need from her when I am in a bad place....

Any tips on starting the conversation? #TimeToTalk #whatineed

I hope you’re all well this evening and have your loved ones and family near - how are you? Good day? Me? I’m not to bad, thanks....
But just in case you’re not ok
Can I just let you know - I will be here most of the night - you are not alone

Namaste 🙏💡🙌

Hello everyone!
I’m new to mighty, I’ve been struggling with anxiety and depression for the last 15 years. I’m a single mom to an amazing 8 yr old girl. She’s my best friend and brings out all the best in me. I have a lot of things to be proud of but despite everything I’ve accomplished I still struggle. How do I get us up in the morning, make lunches, travel to school and work and then work a full day. Some days it’s almost impossible for me to comprehend before I make my first moves in the morning. But I do it. I do it because I have to. If it wasn’t for my daughter I don’t know if I would be here today. I’m a firm believer that taking with people I similar situations is therapeutic which is why I’m on here today #Anxiety #Depression #Singlemom #Hopeforthefuture #icandoit #TimeToTalk

Quote of the Day

"What mental health needs is more sunlight, more candor, more unashamed conversation about illnesses that affect not only individuals, but their families as well." -Glenn Close
