Nanny's Tea

Last year my family and I had a lot of losses due to aging family members. The bright side to this is that before losing my one grandmother, who shared many trips, stories and history with us. I was able to organize a Tea Party for her and her 6 granddaughters. It was a special day and I am so glad I was able to do this with her before she got ill. My nanny also was an avid tea drinker. When ever we needed to talk it was over tea. The last thing her lips tasted before we lost her was tea I had made for her and I. This year I again organized a tea party to remember our grandmother and to share her tea pots that she wanted us all to have. Love always and remember the little things you share over tea. :) #CelebrateLife #tea

How can you celebrate yourself today?

It's so hard to celebrate ourselves when we are all suffering from mental illness and/or chronic illnesses, trauma survivors... It's so so hard to find the good in ourselves when we Just. Don't. Feel. Good.

I want to know today, though, that my Mighty friends can dig deep and force ourselves to find something about us and our lives that's worth celebrating.

Today I have two things to celebrate. Today marks a 20lb weight loss after finally deciding to try and find physical wellness since I can't seem to find mental wellness. Losing 20lbs is a huge accomplishment for me, and I'm celebrating myself for getting to this point.

Today, I also celebrate a huge achievement - today I am officially 8 years sober. I've tamed my harmful addiction to a point where I can celebrate 8 whole years of being alcohol-free.

This photo is a picture of me and my Dad. It was taken about a week after I hit my rock bottom and began my sobriety journey. I felt like a failure, but my Dad come to see me that week to celebrate a big moment in my life... to celebrate me.

He even managed to make me smile and act goofy, which is something I'll always have with my Dad.

My Mighty friends - I want to hear how you can celebrate yourself today! Dig deep and find it -- I know it's there! - and share your celebration with me!

Celebrate yourself

We all have a finite amount of time on this earth, and while it is difficult for many, celebrate your life. Celebrate the little joys, the big joys, the sad times, the happy times. Celebrate the fact that you are alive today.

I say all this because my dad got home from work this evening with news that his best friend died completely unexpectedly. This man was only around 50 years old. He did not deserve to die, but he did. He was a friend to all of our family, and his death weighs heavy on our hearts. Celebrate that finite amount of time you have on this earth—it will not last forever and can disappear whenever. #CelebrateLife
