As we draw closer to Christmas it’s easy to get caught up in the pressure of the season. In Australia we refer to this as “the silly season”. People drive badly, tempers can fray and people do silly things because they are so distracted.
Christmas Day at my home is a significant event. Lots of food, laughter and many different family groups. Anyone who doesn’t have family around will be joining us, no one need be alone Christmas Day.
However, there can be tensions at Christmas. Relatives we would prefer not to engage with can be present. There is pressure to overspend and have a “magical” time. Throw alcohol into the mix and it’s can be disaster.
During this season let’s prioritise our own wellbeing and don’t give out to the extent we are emotionally depleted. Boundaries are not selfish, they are necessary self care.
Have a great Christmas, but amongst it all, look after yourself. You are worth it.
