Motivational Monday: Cultivate Happiness as a Habit While Managing Diabetes

"Happiness is a habit."- Anonymous

Living with a chronic illness is undeniably challenging. Yet, even while managing such conditions, we can still opt for happiness. Cultivating happiness as a habit is one approach. Below are some strategies to achieve this:

1.Setting realistic goals that are small and achievable that aligns with our values and interests.

2.Practicing gratitude by focusing on the positive things that's happening in our lives. This helps us develop a more optimistic outlook on life.

3.Engaging in activities that bring us joy (traveling, spending time with loved ones, creating, volunteering) helps us cultivate happiness.

4.Prioritizing self-care by scheduling regular check-ups with our healthcare providers and adjust our diabetes management plan as necessary.

Creating a more positive and fulfilling life while managing diabetes is a journey that requires patience and perseverance. Adopt the practice of taking life one moment, one step, one day at a time.

By integrating these tips gradually, you will start to feel the positive effects of making happiness a habitual choice.

Feeling blue

I was dx with type 2 diabetes and Moya Moya a rare neurological condition for which I need to have surgery at some point. After 12 years as a nurse I had to temporarily step away while I get better. I had 2 strokes due to the Moya Moya. It’s been 2 years I’m slowly getting better but not fast enough for me…I feel blue like a burden to my family who has to step up financially. I can’t work yet and I feel kind of useless. My friends don’t call much anymore and my outings consist of doctors appointments. Any advice? I was a very vigorous person before I got sick.

Motivational Monday: Learn, Live & Hope

“Learn from yesterday, live for today, hope for tomorrow.”- Albert Einstein

We should embrace the present, not dwell on the past, and look forward with optimism to the future.

For us living with diabetes, this mentality can be especially useful, as it encourages us to learn from our mistakes and successes, live in the moment, and have hope for better management and advancements in diabetes treatment in the future. But until we see these new advancements, let's just keep doing what we can to manage diabetes with the resources we have now.
