Quick Tip Thursday: Don’t Jump To Conclusions with Unexpected Blood Sugar Spikes

When you see a high blood sugar number on your meter, try not to jump to conclusions. Keep track of when unexpected blood sugar spikes occur and the possible triggers.

It might be wise to consider it one of those rare instances if it happens only once. However, if the mystery continues to cause an issue, you might have to limit or avoid the unexpected source of your sudden high blood sugar spike.

Motivational Monday: We Are So Much More

”We do not have to be defined by our illness. We are much more than our symptoms.“- Dr. Brent Shaefer

It’s time that we accept the fact that we are so much more than diabetes. We are so much more than what we're going through.

One way to embrace this is by focusing on our other strengths, talents, and passions that make us unique individuals beyond our illness.

We can also surround ourselves with people who support and uplift us, reminding us of our value and worth beyond our diabetes.

It’s important to remember that our illness does not define us and we have the power to define ourselves and our lives.

"Courage is like a muscle. We strengthen it by use." - Ruth Gordon, American Actress

Similarly, managing diabetes takes courage to stay committed all day, everyday in order to maintain our target blood sugar levels. When you have diabetes, it can be hard to say no to some foods, not want to test your insulin levels multiple times a day, or not want to take certain medications.

The more we actively engage in monitoring our diet, exercise, and medication, the better we become at managing diabetes. It takes courage to stick to a routine and make healthy choices, but the more we do it, the more we strengthen our ability to live a fulfilling life with diabetes.
