Talk About It Tuesday: A Moment of Gratefulness

Thanksgiving is just two days away, and I am looking forward to spending time with my family. Every year, there's something to be grateful for, but this year, I'm valuing life and the people in my life more than ever, especially since my family’s recent car accident. I’m learning how precious and finite life is and that it’s up to us to make the best of the life we were given.

What about you? Name one thing that you’re grateful for this year.

Motivational Monday: Let Your Hopes Shape Your Future

“Let your hopes, not your hurts, shape your future.”- Robert H. Schuller

When managing your health with diabetes, it’s important to focus on the positives and not the negatives. Celebrate the small wins and focus on what you can do to make positive changes in your life.

Use your experiences to motivate yourself to stay on track and find strategies that work for you. Focus on your hopes of living a more fulfilling life with diabetes instead of the bad things it can do.

Quick Tip Thursday: Don’t Jump To Conclusions with Unexpected Blood Sugar Spikes

When you see a high blood sugar number on your meter, try not to jump to conclusions. Keep track of when unexpected blood sugar spikes occur and the possible triggers.

It might be wise to consider it one of those rare instances if it happens only once. However, if the mystery continues to cause an issue, you might have to limit or avoid the unexpected source of your sudden high blood sugar spike.

Motivational Monday: Taking Control

“The difference in life is how we let things define us – what we let control us, what we choose to control.” - Unknown

Our lives are shaped by the choices we make and the way we respond to the events and circumstances that occur. Whether it is positive or negative, we have the power to determine how we perceive and process things, and ultimately, how we allow them to define us.

This is especially true when it comes to managing our chronic conditions.

Many of us allow our chronic conditions define us by allowing them to limit our life choices and opportunities. We may feel like our chronic conditions are an obstacle to our goals and aspirations, and we may be hesitant to take risks or pursue our dreams because of our health status. We may also feel like we are defined by our chronic conditions because of the way that others perceive us or treat us differently because of our health.

Instead of allowing our conditions control us, let’s take steps to take charge of our our conditions!

Taking control of diabetes requires a comprehensive approach that combines lifestyle changes such as healthy eating, physical activity, and stress management with proper medical care and blood sugar monitoring. It’s also important to work closely with a healthcare team to monitor blood glucose levels, adjust medications, and provide mental health services if needed.

When we shift our thinking and start taking control of our health, we are able to create a healthier environment that will support our physical and mental health, and make us more resilient to stress and complications. Taking control of our health allows us to live a happier and longer life 💙
