What Is Mitochondrial Disease?
Mitochondrial Disease (mito) is a group of rare genetic disorders where the mitochondria or the cell's energy producers malfunction. This causes the people who have it to experience an energy deficiency and develop problems with organs like the brain, muscles, heart, and nerves. Not to mention, struggle with symptoms like fatigue, seizures, developmental delays, and organ failure. With that being said, as of right now there's currently no cure for Mito. Fortunately, the good news is that treatments like vitamins and supplements, special diets, breathing treatments, and physical and occupational therapies can help people with Mitochondrial Disease improve their energy levels, overall function, and quality of life.
