Started a Group for #therapists who have #MentalHealthIssues

Hi everyone! Thank you for accepting me.

I am a licensed #counselor in New York State.

I have been in #Therapy since I was 16. I’ll be 41 this year.

As a #mentalhealthprofessional , I have found that one way to #endstigma is to be more #authentic and #Vulnerable .

What does that mean? Well… therapists needs therapists, too! #Burnout is real. I know I especially do a horrible job with #selfcare . The last two years have been especially hard on almost everyone, and the need for more funding for MH in our country is not where we want it to be. :(

I have #generalizedanxiety and #MajorDepressiveDisorder . I had horrible #postpartum anxiety and depression for a year after my son was born.

I invite anyone in the helping professions to join our group. Let’s support one another and lift each other up. Thank you. :)

New Counselor Rejected Me

So, I'm feeling discouraged, disappointed & sad. Last night, I went to see a new counselor & as I started with my "story" of what brought me to counseling, she replied back "Oh, people who have suicidal thoughts frighten me. I'm sorry but I cant help you". I have never heard that in my life. Additionally, she said she knows nothing about bi-polar disorder when I told her I'm bi-polar. I completely feel rejected & like I'm a "wierdo" bc I occasionally have suicidal thoughts & I have bi-polar disorder. Now I'm back to ground zero & have to start my search for a new counselor, but where do I get the energy/motivation from again? Will I ever find someone who not only I "click" with but that doesnt reject me? Has this happened to you?? #counselor #bipolardisprder #Depression

Healing begins with no

As a clinician it is easy to feel the need to accommodate others even when I’m off the clock. People who are in the helping profession are expected to volunteer, serve, give and host and expected to do it often. Giving is good. Volunteering is valuable. However, there comes a time when the right answer is the least expected and that answer is no. No can open doors to mindfulness. It can prompt introspection and self-care and prevent burnout. Everything has to get done but we don’t have to do everything. #selfcare #Burnout #counselor #no
