Newly diagnosed

So I have recently been told it is likely I have Crohn's disease. I was supposed to do a colonoscopy to confirm this, but y'all, I could not get through that gross prep stuff they make you drink, ugh!

Last Wednesday, I ended up in the ER because I had been having right side abdominal pain that started Tuesday morning and just kept persisting and had gotten a bit worse. It made it hurt to walk upright too. So while in the ER they did a CT scan with contrast and my colon was so swollen you could not see my appendix! They had initially thought that is what was going on. The nurses then consulted with the doctor I was supposed to see for the colonoscopy and he is the one who gave the diagnosis. I do have an office visit with him later this month I guess to discuss where we go from here and other stuff I guess.

I am so new to this and I am not happy either of course because not going to lie, I am not good with changes to my diet but from what I am understanding about this, I have no choice or I will suffer some very serious complications.

This is on top of a diagnosis of laryngopharyngeal reflux that I got during the pandemic. It is also called silent reflux because you have virtually no symptoms. So I have been wondering now if the 2 are related, But that has caused me issues with swallowing and eating. So badly, I barely ate and lost 15lbs and my doctors said nothing about it. But so it is ok now, but sometimes gets bad and so because of it I have issues with swallowing pills. I have almost choked on pills a few times while taking antibiotics for the ER visit last week. I am just so sad about it and was wondering if anyone can offer any advice or hacks or tips to manage this and recipes. Info on what I can eat, what I cannot would be amazing too! #Crohns #CheckInWithMe #reflux #InflammatoryBowelDisease #Depression #Sadness #Anxiety

#CheckInWithMe

Deep breaths... So I know it's been quite a while since the last time I posted anything. Life has just been very busy.

Right now, I'm not on any meds for my #JuvenileIdiopathicArthritis /  #RheumatoidArthritis . I switched to a new doctor, a pediatric rheumatologist, who is SO GOOD! I feel so blessed to have met her. However, I found out that I had been diagnosed and treated totally wrong up to then, which was obviously disheartening. I had been on hydroxychloroquine, which didn't do much. It basically just maintained my pace, but didn't improve my disease activity. Then my new doctor switched me onto meloxicam, which flared up my acid reflux, of course, but also did absolutely zilch for my arthritis. So now I am really, really considering aggressive treatment.

My doc is really pro methotrexate, and wants me to start with that, but I'm real iffy on it. It makes me nervous to think that I'll be on a chemo drug, even if the dosage is much less. Also, I am getting the feeling that there are way more side effects than from other drugs. The other options that my doctor put out there were Enbrel or Humira. I have two friends on Humira (one for Crohn's and the other for RA), but I don't really know anyone on Enbrel or methotrexate. I am honestly really jittery about the whole thing. Not so much because of the poking- I don't really care about that. It's more about how my immune system will be further suppressed and all the side effects that come with these treatments. I am just super anxious about that.

So now I have to get an MRI to see if I have arthritis in my jaw too (aka #TemporomandibularJointDisorders ). My doctor wants to see the full extent of the damage before putting me on any medications. So I have a few weeks before I have to make the final decision of what medication I'll have to take.

My #PTSD been acting up too. I saw my abuser on the street about a week ago and I've been freaking out since then. I haven't been able to sleep for nights and I'm shaking and irritable. Flashing back all the time, etc. You know, the works. PTSD can be such a bitch. Excuse my language, I am just frustrated.

I've been emotionally numb too. My thoughts have been fuzzy and I think I am retreating to #EatingDisorders behavior. Restricting food, skipping meals, counting calories. I'm fighting my urges, but it's tough. I am just such a mess.

Also, since it's Passover in my house now, I have been so constipated due to my #IrritableBowelSyndromeIBS . It's not the worst, thank G-d, like I am going, just it's difficult again.

So that's me at the moment. A mess, unfortunately.

I hope all of you wonderful people are doing better than that. Sending love and hugs to you all! ❤️❤️

100 days clean from #Selfharm !!

Today marks 100 days since the last time that I self-harmed!

It has been a difficult struggle with not cutting, but I take it day by day. I learned lots of healthy coping mechanisms for resisting the urge, and I try to just sit with the feelings instead of giving in to my dangerous temptation.

Just wanted to share because that was very exciting news for me.

Sending lots of love to my Mighty family!! You can get through everything that you're going through. It does get better.

Affirmations for dark days

Something that helps with the guilt that comes along with my depression and anxiety is realizing that just because I think something, doesn't make it true and doesn't make it mine. Just because I get the thought that "I'm not trying hard enough" doesn't mean that I am not trying hard enough. Just because I think that "No one loves me" doesn't mean that no one loves me. It's simply a thought, and thoughts are just electric impulses that are interpreted by my brain. Accepting that my brain sends me unhelpful ones often has shifted my perspective in relating to my depression and anxiety.

I try to repeat positive phrases: I am doing my best. I am enough as I am.

These positive phrases help me get through difficult days.

Sending love and hugs to all!

How do you deal with fatigue?

I have a hard time with fatigue due to a number of my conditions, but I also can't drink coffee or consume caffeine because it worsens other conditions. What are some ways that you deal with your fatigue?

Update on the appointment

Hello friends!

Yesterday I posted that I was worried about the appointment and I got lovely feedback and warm wishes from the community. I thought it was only fair that I should let you all know how it went. #CheckInWithMe

So it was a productive appointment. I got a new medication for my reflux, which will hopefully take care of my #GastroesophagealRefluxDisease and #LaryngopharyngealReflux .

Mainly, I am scheduled for surgery in a month to remove my tonsils. It's not a serious surgery, thank G-d, but I'll need to miss a fair bit of school while I'm recovering. That is not something I'm keen on. I've definitely survived worse, so this will be just a little blip on my radar. My doctor is wonderful and she's the top of her field, so I'm not terribly worried. My anxiety tends to flare up closer to the date, but I'm taking everything as it comes.

I spoke to two of my best friends for hours on the phone after the appointment and that definitely made me feel better. At least emotionally. #Friends

Thank you all for your wishes of good luck and I hope all of you have something lovely happen to you today!

Wish me luck!

#CheckInWithMe
I'm going to my ENT today to discuss my bloodwork results and figure out what to do about my acid reflux that has damaged my vocal chords. We also need to discuss my recurring strep infections and consider tonsil removal. I really hope that it does not come to that.

Sending my best to anyone else seeing a doctor today!
