Sunshine 🌞

It's finally starting to warm up outside! Seeds are sprouting flowers are budding and blooming and leaves are on trees! The sun is shining! It's all so beautiful! Hope you all get to enjoy some sunshine and smiles this week!

What are some of your favorite things to do in the sunshine?

The artist loves to watch things grow as she draws or crotchets.

Go to foods...

Sometimes making meals and eating can be difficult due to sensory issues or our tics just making us spit out our food or throw it or other things like smashing it. Things the artist does to help her eat is she eats toast a lot and subs meals with smoothies and nutritional shakes when she has to. Sometimes it's the exhaustion from ticing that just makes you too tired to eat as well, especially from an attack. Sometimes your abdominal tics make you sick and after that, it's hard to force yourself to eat because eating will just make it worse. Other go-to foods are things like cheese sticks or oatmeal or pancakes. She eats gluten-free and low sugar as it helps her feel better but each to their own. What are some of your go-to food for when you really don't have the energy to eat?

Sensory Assistance

For people with touch sensory disorders, what materials are painful for you to handle? What helps?

One thing that I experience: touching anything metal feels like I'm being electrically shocked. So I use wooden flatware instead of metal utensils.

I'm curious what others experience with different materials and what you do to accommodate yourself.

What is your favorite place to relax?

Everyone has their own way and their own place to relax, or just to distract from stressful times. Do you like spending time in the forest? Do you go downtown? Do you enjoy sitting in the garden? Or do you like spending your time in another place? #relaxing #Freetime #Sensoryfriendly #SensoryDisorder #chillout #innerpeace

WE HAVE A LONG WAY TO GO... #Autism #SensoryIssues #Accessibility

AUTISM ACCESSIBILITY- WE AREN’T EVEN CLOSE...

While I’m thrilled to see progress, and it’s clear we’re going in the right direction...It feels like it’s going to take A LONG time to see any real change.
(**I mention Chuck E Cheese not to point them out on their own, they in fact are one of the first family fun type restaurants to do this, but for the most part “sensory friendly” hours have become the GO-TO for many companies looking to include the autism community.
I just want to point out that there are SO MANY OTHER WAYS to accommodate the community! **)

It’s great to see that they are recognizing the Autism community but..Chuck E Cheese at 9AM on a Sunday Morning for 2 HOURS, Once a month?
A lot of Autistic kids have sleep issues, in turn, a lot of parents don’t have the energy to wake up early to visit a fun restaurant (do they even serve breakfast?) for a two hour visit. (when even getting the child comfortable with the space can take an hour or longer.)

I hate to be unappreciative of their efforts, I’m TRULY thrilled that they have recognized the need...I just feel we have a long way to go..❤️
There are so many ways we can make places like this accessible for longer periods of time...if not during regular business hours.

Catholic church in Arizona holds sensory friendly mass

www.azcentral.com/story/news/local/chandler/2019/11/01/st-an...

Check out this article about a Catholic church in Arizona where the priest decided their parish community needed to be more inclusive of its members with special needs and took action.

As a Catholic, it makes me so happy that this church is working towards becoming accessible for all. I hope other Catholic churches and faith communities follow suit.

Are there any soft, fuzzy compression socks anyone can recommend? I need some but I prefer soft cottony things on my skin. #Sensoryfriendly
