I know, I know… but here it is. Consider it.

We are two friends both with chronic and mental illness, who decided we wanted to bring to the forefront, and open up real conversations about, how we are coping with our diagnosises. We use humor, personal experiences and scientific studies with what can potentially help; has helped; and what we are willing to try to stay sane in the midst of what we’ve been saddled with by life.
We’re also doing this to try to end stigma, raise awareness as well as discourage toxic positivity and ableism to take more root in society.

We would love your support and also your input on what coping skills you all use- join the conversation! Follow us on instagram @ creative.copes and on your favorite listening platform and comment away! The more we talk, the more mainstream it will become.

No More Medical Gaslighting!!

Just read, or should I say, listened to, a great article on medical gaslighting. It explains it the best I've ever heard. Many do not even realize what's happening when dr's are dismissive. Women and ethnic minorities are more likely to encounter this. If you do, find another dr. Do not let that dismissive dr, cause you to prolong the proper diagnosis, or overlook your symptoms.

Women Are Calling Out ‘Medical Gaslighting’

Always trust your instincts!!

My suspicious were right!! How could people stand with evil but try to crucify goodness! Revelation is necessary but it doesn’t erase the sting of betrayal. I quit with ignoring my instinct. I release my anger to God for allowing OCD to overtake me at one point. You only forced revelation of the betrayal and deception in my life. Thank you! Now, please heal my broken heart and heavy spirit! Just because something is necessary it doesn’t erase the pain of departure.

Clap for your own damn self 👏🏼

Today was good.
I did the majority of the work without many offers of help and I did the very best I could.
I contributed to our team’s workload while also completing the tasks required for my own projects.
I completed my own work without taking away time to help everyone else.

Today was no different than yesterday.
No acknowledgement was given. No encouragement. I asked questions that were met with the same discouraging looks. My answers were given hurriedly and with a tone of annoyance.

But I worked alone, as I do everyday, to turn those answers into solutions. I used them to pave a way for my own success. A success no one seems to want for me and a success reaped from a work ethic that remains to be unappreciated.

They didn’t clap for me.
They never do.

But I clapped for myself.
And I did so for the first time.

I hope you clapped for yourself too ❤️ #ToxicPeople #toxicworkenvironment #toxicworkplace #Anxiety #Depression #NegativeThoughts #beyourownadvocate #loveyourself #Improudofyou

This is P.O.T.S

Went to Urgent Care today hoping to get some much needed fluids following a particularly heavy time of the month this week. In addition to having to reexplain my whole condition to more than half of the personnel I encountered, I had to wait over 2 HOURS before the doctor even came to greet me. That facility was absolutely freezing, and then they started administering cold fluids, which naturally chilled my already shivery body to the absolute bone and further triggered my POTS, or possibly angered my #EhlersDanlos . Either way the small bag of fluids I was given just managed to make everything feel 10x’s worse. I struggled to drive the, like 3 miles home, collapsed on the couch, curled into the fetal position, and proceeded to bawl my eyes out. Fast forward through heart palpitations, orthostatic intolerance, and ambulance ride, multiple needle sticks, and about 4-5 hours of waiting, I finally got the fluids I needed. And go figure, I feel like a somewhat functional human being again.... until the next time that is.

Note to self: just go to the Hospital ER in the first place from now on!

Be Your Own Advocate

I was informed by a geneticist today of something I suspected all along... I have EDS. Could be one of a few types so more testing is needed, but still, it’s at least a partial diagnosis. I also learned I have POTS, and I have it pretty severely. That’s why I’ve just been going day to day feeling like one big (barely) walking malfunction.

While it’s not a diagnosis anyone really wants, at least it’s a diagnosis. And now people can’t call me a crazy hypochondriac because low and behold, I was correct!

I just knew something wasn’t right, so I kept searching and fighting for answers, until I found them. Never stop being your own advocate.
