"While you expressed #Gratitude for the #Opportunity to provide visibility on the subject of abuse toward the 2SLBGTQIA+ #Community , you felt that #CBC made choices which diluted your appearance. It left you feeling, if not misrepresented, then underrepresented."

It feels as if #CBC chose to represent me as what I interpret as inept, powerless, and stuck with candy-coated concerns because who I am isn't palatable enough for Canadians who can't cope that #people such as myself strive to inspire and create #change .

#social platforms highlighted my segment as being of the utmost importance on an issue that had not been placed front and centre in the campaign until my appearance.

I continued to focus much of my argument on the treatment of my introductory video. I emphasized how problematic it was that this video highlighted "my love for #Sports and karaoke" while omitting more substantive #Comments about the importance of placing responsibility for bigotry and hate-based abuse on the abusers rather than the victims.

"I'm an undecided voter because" and "Let's be #leaders …" were extracted from two completely different sections of what I provided. #CBC created that line and not me, and I'm not sure if that is conducive to "accuracy."

"You stated that you followed all the directives given to you in advance by producers, yet you were the only one of the four participants given less than 40 seconds of airtime."

"You also reiterated that #CBC exercised poor judgment when it failed to include your exchange about pronouns with #ErinOToole .”

#CBC watered me down and presented me with the safest, most palatable and most comfortable image they could build based on the information I provided.

"Your complaint is, first and foremost, a reminder that the stories journalists tell are not really "theirs." They are the stories of real #people with real lives, ambitions, and concerns."

Journalistic Standards and Practices covers much ground regarding ethical #Journalism but doesn't cover specific circumstances.

"There is more debate to be had about editing your introductory video … it's clear that those producers took two risks with your video."

"On your frustration that the #question you asked on the show was "negotiated," … I worried it meant that programmers were forcing you to ask the questions that they wanted."

For a year and a half I’ve been an active part of a smallish company promoting them when I can as well as creating positive videos to help draw more customers. In the rules created by the individual who started this company is that if anyone ships anything out, a tracking number is required. It’s a steadfast rules that’s been followed without any problems. That is until last weekend. Several of us helped the owner decipher something and as a very nice free gift. After two weeks, when they sent work that this gift had been spend out, I was one of the only individual to not have received mine. The others were over seas. Yet a few lived in my same state and they had gotten there long ago. I also noticed that the individual whom started this company didn’t provide a tracking number which was suspicious to see the least. Simply pointing this out last week Saturday to them asking for the tracking number since it has been over two weeks by that point. Once again they just blamed it on covid instead of actually acting like a boss of a company before, flipping out. Sending me a threatening email, calling me all sorts of names, on their brands official email complete with signature. Before banning me and claiming to refund me for several purchase I’d previously made. Only one of the refunds has actually shown up in my PayPal the others are still MIA. I’m really upset and still am dealing with the panic attacks as well as people tracking me down via other social media’s to harass me due to miss information.

Needless to say this has been a wake up call. I no longer use any forms of social media and while it’s been a weird week I’ve been able to breath again. To those whom own business how would you have handled this situation? I wasn’t aggressive or bullying as they claim. Just asking for something they failed to provide and up until now hasn’t been broken.

Business and Chronic Illness - Bitter Sweet

About 3 years ago, I left the corporate world to open up my own business.
Owning a hair salon is difficult, and with RA, it seems to be harder. I’m a very “hands on” kinda person. Even though, I’m not a stylist, I help my staff where I can on busy days as an apprentice.

They have been understanding since my diagnosis. But I’ve reached a point where I’m tired. I’m tired of working 6 days a week. I’m tired of pretending not to be sick. I’m especially tired of explaining my illness to my clients and employees. I’m tired of being in pain. I’m tired of the judgements, remarks and comments about my illness.

As much as my business stresses me out and causes flares, I am blessed to have it. I can stay out without a doctors note. My husband, mom or aunt look after the shop when I really can’t be there. Most importantly, it pays the bills. It brings me joy to know I have something that’s mine that is getting me by. With, or without me, the business will go on. What awesome peace of mind!

Accepting my new limits is challenging, but it’s working out. With a good support system, anything is possible.
